Brookbora Jerseys

Located at Tennyson in Northern Victoria, Brookbora Jerseys is owned by Robert and Sandra Bacon together with their family Michelle 25 and Daniel 21. Michelle is a pharmacist manager & studying and Daniel completely his fourth year of study in a Bachelor of Animal Science.

The third generation to manage the property, purchased in 1950, Brookbora Jerseys was first established by Robert's parents, Norm and Margaret Bacon in 1963. The original home property was expanded with the purchase of the neighbouring property in 1981, taking the home property to 96 hectares.

In 2011, Brookbora expanded by 142 hectares with leased and purchased land to be used for young stock and fodder production, with excess fodder sold. In May 2013, a further 43 hectares was purchased and together with the original property, will be used primarily for milk production.

Originally the herd was established primarily on Elenko and Edenhope bloodlines. The use of artificial insemination and herd testing were important in the formation of the herd that exists today. The herd is highly commercial, bred with very functional type cows and the ASI average is currently amongst the top 2% of herds nationally. All young stock are reared under the calf accreditation program JDCAP, the herd status is non assessed and EBL negative. Stock born since 2004 are scored JD7.
